The charter by the Parti Québécois would, among other things, bar public sector employees from wearing overt religious symbols. It was unveiled Thursday in the Quebec National Assembly, where the party warned opposition that blocking its introduction could lead to an election.

The charter's full title is: Charter Affirming The Values Of Secularism And The Religious Neutrality Of The State, As Well As The Equality Of Men And Women, And The Framing Of Accommodation Requests.
