Elections Ontario has reversed results in the Thornhill riding, declaring Progressive Conservative candidate Gila Martow winner over the Liberal candidate after the official counting.

The unofficial results submitted via telephone and then announced on election night originally named Liberal candidate Sandra Yeung Racco the riding's victor by just 85 votes.

But a rare clerical error, the first case in this election, was discovered during official tabulation; the Progressive Conservative candidate actually obtained the most votes in Thornhill.

"This doesn't happen often at all," said Andrew Willis, communications coordinator for Elections Ontario.

The reversal does not change the overall outcome of the provincial election with Kathleen Wynne winning a majority government.

Scrutineers for both the Liberal Party candidate and PC party candidate were present at yesterday's official tabulation, a routine process that occurs in every electoral district.

"My campaign manager was with Liberal manager late in day at Elections ON–told officially of error in recording," Ms. Martow tweeted last night.

Mr. Willis said the tabulation process is a safeguard that is put in place to catch these kind of minor data-entry errors.

The official count shows Ms. Martow led Ms. Yeung Racco 21, 868 to 21, 783 in votes to take the riding.

Racco says she is disappointed and will be requesting a judicial recount.
