The Special Investigations Unit is looking into the shooting of a teenager by police in Pickering, east of Toronto.

Durham regional police say a 17-year-old male was shot today by an officer responding to a reported armed robbery at a veterinary clinic.

Police say officers were called to the clinic (on Kingston Road near Glenanna Road) at about 7:30 a.m.

The teen is in a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the teen was shot after being confronted by an officer who arrived at the scene.

No other injuries were reported during the incident and police have closed part of the road for the investigation.
