John Gross suddenly has to worry about losing half of his customers.
Mr. Gross, 52, the owner of True North Climbing, which is located in the Downsview Park Sports Centre, is worried about the 101 Parc Downsview Park bus, which many of his customers use and is one of 48 bus routes the TTC proposes to change.
Of those changes that may take effect on March 27, the Downsview Park bus is the only one that will have no service from September to May.
"It's definitely going to hurt," Mr. Gross said. "I put a lot of my savings into the business."
Mr. Gross, who opened his gym in March, said he has seen the number of customers increase to 100 visits a day. He has a 10-year lease and has installed a rock-climbing wall that is not portable.
Commuter Shela Block, 33, a student at Coco Fashion Design Centre, said she will now have to walk an additional 20 minutes to get to class.
"I feel more disappointed in the cancellation than the fare hike," she said. "It already takes an hour to get here."
The Downsview Park bus is the only option for commuters to get inside the park by public transit, but for Rebecca Crosier, the cancellation is not a surprise.
"There is barely anyone on the bus and I've had an unreliable experience with the 101. Sometimes it doesn't show up," she said.
Mr. Gross said he needs to figure out his next step.
"The park is a growing business itself and bus ridership would have gone up," he said.
