Four people were taken to hospital after a head-on collision between a TTC bus and a streetcar at Main St. and Danforth Ave. on Saturday morning.

Paramedics say they were called to the scene at 10:15 a.m., where two people suffered moderate injuries.

One of the passengers was taken on a backboard for precautionary reasons while another was treated for chest pain. The other two, which included the bus driver and a passenger, sustained minor injuries.

Toronto police said it was not immediately clear who was at fault in the collision.

Paramedics say 15-20 people were on board the streetcar when the collision occurred.

The entire intersection remains closed after the streetcar derailed. Police said transit officials were working to get the streetcar back on the tracks to clear the intersection.

Police advised that Main St. N. would be closed from Gerrard St. E. to Danforth Ave. for an extended period of time.

The streetcar was headed east toward Main St. on the 506 Carlton route.

All streetcars running on the 506 Carlton route are turning back at Coxwell Loop and shuttles will be operating instead, the TTC stated. Bus routes 23 Dawes, 20 Cliffside, 113 Danforth routes are diverting via Victoria Park Station.
