A combination of rain and freezing rain across the Toronto area is making for a slow and slippery drive this morning.

Authorities say there were numerous collisions and spin-outs on Highway 401 early in the morning.

However, traffic snarls have been minimized by the lighter-than-usual volume.

Drivers are being advised to give themselves extra time if they are heading out this morning.

The weather has also caused delays at Pearson International Airport, where overnight flights to Ottawa, Montreal, New York and Detroit were cancelled.

People scheduled to fly out today are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
