A Toronto Maple Leaf fan’s unfortunate sign mocking the Boston Strong slogan that has helped that U.S. city deal with the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon is sparking outrage on both sides of the border.
The sign, which read “Toronto Stronger,” was flashed by a fan wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey at Maple Leaf Square, where thousands of hockey fans had gathered outside of the Air Canada Centre on Monday night for Game 3 of the Bruins playoff game against the Leafs.
A photo that was taken of the fan holding the sign quickly spread across Twitter and Facebook. According to CBS Boston, the image was the No. 1 trending topic in Boston by the time the second period of the game rolled around.
“Toronto Stronger?” read one of the many posts that flooded onto Twitter, condemning the sign. “C’mon guys figure it out that’s not right.”
Boston Strong is the phrase that became widespread in the U.S. city after the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three people and injured more than 250.
“This seriously bugs me,” said another Tweet. “SHOW SOME RESPECT.”Report Typo/Error
