Toronto police say a 60-year-old man was struck and killed by a streetcar overnight in the city's east end.

Police say the man had just stepped off an eastbound streetcar and onto the streetcar stop island when he stumbled and fell into the street around 1:30 a.m.

They say he was hit by the rear wheels of another eastbound streetcar and suffered major trauma.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, at Queen Street East and Eastern Avenue.

His name has not been released.
