Toronto Police have charged Scarborough resident Sriranganathan Ampalam, 58, with criminal negligence causing death after a two-year-old boy was pulled from his backyard pond Tuesday morning. Police were called to a home on Carrying Place, near Neilson Road and Finch Ave. East, at 10:20 a.m. after the toddler was discovered unconscious in his neighbour's pond.

The boy was rushed to Scarborough Centenary Hospital. He was later transferred Sick Kids Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 2:56 p.m., according to police.
