A man was taken to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries after he fell through a skylight to the main floor of a downtown restaurant.

Cleaning staff at the Keg Mansion found the injured man shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday. Toronto police Constable David Hopkinson said the man wasn't known to the staff and police have discovered apparent signs of a break in.

"We strongly suspect that this man was trying to break into the place, but that is not official yet," Constable Hopkinson said, adding that the investigation will be aided by the police forensic-identification services.

The man, whose identity wasn't released, "is in very bad condition," Constable Hopkinson said. A spokesman with Toronto Paramedic Services said the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Keg Mansion restaurant is located in a heritage building built in the 1860s for a wealthy Toronto family. In the 1880s, it was sold to prominent Canadian businessman and philanthropist Hart Massey and named Euclid Hall. It has been a Keg restaurant for four decades.
