A man is in hospital after jumping from a moving Go Transit train in Toronto but it's unclear whether he will face charges.

Metrolinx, which operates the commuter transit line, says it happened as an Oshawa-bound train approached Danforth station around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins says the man somehow got one of the doors open, which she says is "not an easy task."

She says three others then jumped off after him in an effort to help.

Witnesses had initially reported seeing four people jump off.

Aikins says the investigation continues and will determine whether charges are warranted.
