A man suffered minor injuries after part of a billboard advertisement fell on him outside the Toronto Eaton Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was taken to hospital to be assessed after injuring his leg about 2 p.m., Emergency Medical Services spokesman Dave Viljak said.

Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd., which owns the Eaton Centre, confirmed in a statement that a slat fell off the mall's north media tower. It appears to be an H&M advertisement at Yonge Street and Dundas Street West.

"After a thorough investigation, the area has been deemed safe and is now reopened to the public," an updated statement said.

Police confirmed that they were investigating.
