Police west of Toronto say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a passenger train in Oakville Thursday evening.

Halton Regional Police say the Niagara Falls-to-Toronto Amtrak train was in Oakville when a pedestrian was seen walking across the tracks.

The pedestrian, described by police as a young male, was alone at the time and pronounced dead at the scene.

No one on the train was hurt.

The name of the pedestrian has not been released and police continue to investigate.
