Police in Connecticut have arrested a man charged in the death of a toddler in Toronto 18 years ago.

Connecticut media outlets are reporting that police arrested 38-year Germaine Sean Lindo on marijuana charges on Dec. 14.

Police say he was arrested under the name of Paul Watson and a fingerprint check revealed Mr. Lindo's identity.

Mr. Lindo is wanted in connection with the death of Candace DaSilva, who was 20 months old when she died in 1993.

Toronto police said at the time the child was brought to hospital suffering from scalding burns to her lower body.

She died of multiple organ failure.

Police say Mr. Lindo was the girl's stepfather and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge in manslaughter.

The Norwich Bulletin is reporting that Mr. Lindo is being detained by the U.S. Department of Immigration.
