A motorcyclist suffered non-life threatening injuries to his neck Sunday afternoon after he drove into what Toronto police believe was a kite line that was hanging across a road in Toronto's east end.

He was taken to hospital, police say.

Humayun Kobir, 26, was riding his motorcycle near Warden and St. Clair Avenues about 4 p.m. Sunday when he hit the high-strength wire.

After realizing he had been badly injured, Mr. Kobir flagged down a passing motorist who helped him cover the wound until paramedics arrived.

Mr. Kobir is in stable condition, but investigators say they haven't had a chance to interview him because he has been unable to talk.

Police say the line appears to be the same kind of high-strength wire used in kite fighting, a highly popular sport in some parts of the world.

Investigators say they find the wire all over the east-end neighbourhood — a popular location for people who participate in kite fighting.
