Toronto police say one person is dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in the city's downtown core.

Officers were called to an address (on Bleecker Street) near Sherbourne and Wellesley Street around 2:45 p.m. Thursday and found two people suffering from stab wounds.

Both victims were rushed to hospital, where one of them died.

The second victim remains in critical condition.

Police would only say that one of the victims was a man and couldn't confirm if the other was male or female.

Police had few other details and there was no immediate word of any suspects.
