A pedestrian has died after being hit by a streetcar in downtown Toronto.

Police were called to the scene near Queen Street West and Claremont Avenue this morning after reports a male pedestrian had been struck by a streetcar and dragged.

Emergency services says a coroner was called to the scene.

Crews have closed Queen Street West between Niagara and Bathurst streets for the investigation.

The Toronto Transit Commission says streetcars are being diverted around the area.
