Autopsies were conducted Sunday on a mother and child found in the trunk of a vehicle northeast of Toronto, Durham Regional Police say.

Police discovered the bodies on Saturday morning after a citizen noticed the vehicle parked in a farmer's field near the community of Sunderland.

"We're hopeful that the post-mortem will shed some light as to the cause of death," said Inspector David Brown. On Sunday night, the results of the autopsy had not yet been released.

Police contacted some of the woman's relatives on Sunday to help them piece together what she was doing before her death, Inspector Brown said. He added that police weren't looking for any suspects in the case, pending the results of the autopsies.

The bodies have not yet been identified.
