The collision between Toronto-region commuters and construction season grew worse on Monday morning as a major downtown road project began and an accident hit the western Queen Elizabeth Way.

On the QEW, two eastbound lanes were closed early Monday morning at Erin Mills Parkway due to a truck rollover.

Two eastbound lanes remain closed, with morning traffic backed up as far as Winston Churchill Boulevard to the west. The highway will be closed down completely by police at 9 a.m. to remove the truck, and is expected to reopen by noon.

On the streets of Toronto's downtown grid, a new obstacle for drivers today is TTC track-replacement work at the intersection of Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street. On Monday, the east-west and north-south routes are being reduced to one lane.

Beginning July 28, the intersection will be completely closed for two weeks.
