Two uniformed Toronto police officers visited Mayor Rob Ford’s office Tuesday morning in response to a threat made against the mayor, police say.
The mayor’s office received a threat Monday and called police to report it. The officers stopped by in person Tuesday to speak to the staff member who received it and City Hall security, who had filed an internal report, according to Amin Massoudi, a spokesperson for the mayor.
“We take all of these threats very seriously,” Mr. Massoudi explained, but would not go into details about the threat. Though he wouldn’t say how many threats have been made against the mayor during his tenure, Mr. Massoudi said it’s not unusual for police to be called.
“I wouldn’t say it happens on a regular basis but it does happen. Our protocol is to err on the side of caution.”
Police spokesman Mark Pugash confirmed two officers visited City Hall in response to “a threat to the mayor’s security.”Report Typo/Error
