A battle between two Toronto city councillors is heating up ahead of next week's provincial byelection in Etobicoke-Lakeshore.
Peter Milczyn — the Liberal candidate running in the riding — has filed a formal complaint to the city's integrity commissioner and the lobbyist registrar over an issue with a photo-op by PC rival Doug Holyday.
Holyday appeared with Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak next to a city-contracted garbage truck on Wednesday, with Hudak touting Holyday's role in privatizing west side garbage collection.
Milczyn has asked the integrity commissioner to investigate whether the truck could be a contribution from a lobbyist or a gift, and whether it violates the city's policy against using a city resource during an election.
Holyday's campaign says the truck was not in use at the time of the photo-op and no city resources were diverted.
Responding to Milczyn's complaint, Holyday calls it "a desperate move by desperate people" and an attempt to distract voters from Liberal government scandals.
