A Toronto man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of a woman early Saturday morning.

Police received a call about unknown trouble at a downtown apartment.

Officers discovered the body of Natasha Perez, 28, when they arrived.

Police say the body showed "obvious signs of trauma" and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested 42-year-old Brian Harte.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court Sunday morning to face the charge against him.

Police say an autopsy is due to be performed on the woman's body on Sunday.

The community-housing building where the incident took place is in the Regent Park neighbourhood, which is currently under revitalization.

A man was shot multiple times in the same building in February.
