A Toronto police officer has been criminally charged in a driving incident that happened while he was off duty.

The province's Special Investigations Unit says an "interaction" between a 43-year-old Toronto man and an off-duty police officer left the man with a fracture.

The SIU did not provide details about the incident nor did it specify what bone in the man's body was fractured.

Const. Bryan Thomas has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 24.
