Two Toronto police officers face assault charges after a suspect was injured while in custody.

The Special Investigations Unit says Keith Ryan was arrested April 24 following an altercation with a parking enforcement officer.

Later that day, Mr. Ryan was taken to hospital and found to have broken bones in his face.

SIU director Ian Scott says there are reasonable grounds to believe Mr. Ryan was assaulted while in police custody.

Constables Manpreet Kharbar and Paul Ramos each face one charge of assault causing bodily harm. They are due in court Aug. 24.

The parking enforcement officer, Devon Henry, was charged with assault causing bodily harm April 28th in connection with the same incident. As a civilian member of the force, he was not the focus of the SIU investigation.
