Two men were killed in a string of shootings that marked a deadly weekend for the GTA.

One man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a small Mississauga strip mall Sunday evening.

Peel police said they arrived at the mall, which is on North Service Road near Cawthra Road, shortly after 6:30 p.m. The man was transported to hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police said.

He has been identified as Huy Duc (Andy) Nguyen, 41, of Brampton.

"We are in the very early stage of the investigation," said Constable Thomas Ruttan, a spokesman for Peel Regional Police. "But it does not appear that this is a random act. The public does not have to fear for their safety."

Constable Ruttan said police have interviewed witnesses and are looking for suspects.

In a separate incident on Saturday night, Jermaine Smith, 28, of Toronto was shot and killed at a community barbecue in North Toronto.

Toronto police said they received a call at 9:58 p.m. on Saturday, from the barbecue in the Dundas St. West and Scarlett Road area.

They said the victim had two gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they are looking for witnesses – anyone who attended the community event in the area or has information on the incident.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday, police said.

Two other shootings occurred in Toronto on Saturday night.

A man in his twenties was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital where he was in critical condition Sunday morning, police at Toronto's 31 Division said.

In that case, police said they received a call at 8:30 p.m., from Brookwell Park near Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West.

And another man has been released from hospital after he was shot in the leg while in his car on Eglinton Ave. E. near Kennedy Road. Police say they received the call at 6:30 p.m. and are looking for three male suspects.
