Toronto homicide detectives are investigating after two young men were found shot to death in the stairwell of a North York apartment building's garage Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to 325 Bogert Ave., near Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West, around 4 p.m. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The victims have been identified as brothers Justin Waterman, 18, and Jerome Waterman, 22, both of Toronto.

Detective Sergeant Hank Idsinga of the homicide squad told reporters that both victims had gunshot wounds.

Several shell casings that appear to belong to a semi-automatic firearm were found near the bodies. It also appears the victims were targeted, Det. Sgt. Idsinga said.

Police were expected to remain in the area for several hours, interviewing residents and combing a nearby park for clues. People in the neighbourhood reported seeing individuals fleeing the low-rise apartment building around the time of the shooting.

"People in the area are going to be vital," Constable Tony Vella said.
