Toronto police identified Byron Linares as the victim of a Yonge & Sheppard Ave. shooting last weekend.

Toronto police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred last weekend near Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue.

Byron Linares, 27, died of a single gunshot wound. Toronto police have ruled the death as a homicide. They are investigating the case for a motive and looking for suspects.

Police were alerted to the incident when they received a 911 call to attend an apartment on the ninth floor of 35 Empress Ave. The call came on Sunday, June 16 around 2:50 a.m.

Toronto police spokesperson Constable Tony Vella said the homicide squad is trying to identify who the 911 caller is. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
