Police in Mexico say the body of a Canadian man has been found on a street in the city of Culiacan in Sinaloa state.

Sinaloa state police say Salid Abdulacis Sabas had been shot to death.

He was carrying a Canadian identification card. His age is not known.

Sinaloa is home to the cartel led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, considered the most powerful drug trafficker in the world.

State police said Monday in an emailed statement that the Canadian man was shot with a high-powered weapon close to midnight on Sunday.

Officials have not provided a motive for his killing.
