A young man visiting the U.S. gambling capital hit pay dirt: a world record $39-million (U.S.) on a slot machine.

The 25-year-old software engineer from Los Angeles, who requested anonymity, came up big yesterday on the Megabucks machine. A $1 bet can pay out $5,000, but playing for $3 a pull dramatically increases the winnings.

He said he had put in about $100 when the winning symbols lined up and he was $39,713,982.25 richer. Reuters
