1. April 16, 2007 – Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg. 32 students dead plus the shooter.

Student Seung Hui Cho, 23, killed two students in a dorm and then went through a classroom building shooting people before killing himself.

2. Oct. 16, 1991 – Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Tex. 23 dead plus the shooter.

George Hennard, 35, drove into a restaurant and then started shooting people. Police injured him and he then killed himself.

3. July 18, 1984 – McDonald's restaurant in San Ysidro, California. 21 dead plus the shooter.

James Oliver Huberty, 41, went into the McDonald's and shot people until he was killed by a police sniper.

4. Aug. 1, 1966– University of Texas at Austin. 16 dead plus the shooter. Charles Whitman, 25, was a former Marine sniper who shot people from the observation deck of a campus tower before being killed by police.

5. Aug. 20, 1986 – A post office in Edmond, Oklahoma. 14 dead plus the shooter.

Pat Sherrill, 44, was about to be fired as a letter carrier when he came to work, shot his coworkers and supervisor and then killed himself.

6. April 20, 1999 – Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. 13 dead plus two shooters.

Eric Harris, 18, and fellow student Dylan Klebold, 17, killed students and teachers at their school before killing themselves in the library.

7. April 3, 2009 – Immigration services center in Binghamton, New York. 13 dead plus the shooter.

Jiverly Wong, 41, was a student at the center when he shot people as he walked into a classroom. As police approached, he then killed himself.

8. Nov. 5, 2009 – Soldier Readiness Processing Center at Fort Hood, Texas. 13 dead.

Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, is awaiting trial for accusations that he fired at a group of soldiers who were getting ready to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

9. Sept. 6, 1949 – Camden, New Jersey. 13 dead.Howard Unruh, 28, killed neighbours while walking near his home. He never went to trial; he was determined to be a paranoid schizophrenic.

10. July 20, 2012 – movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado. 12 dead.James Eagan Holmes, 24, is facing charges after allegedly entering a screening of the latest Batman movie and setting off gas canisters and opening fire on the crowd.
