The AGO Transforms Meetings And Special Events

The AGO knows how to think outside the box. Already renowned for its spectacular permanent collection of more than 80,000 works of art, the Art Gallery of Ontario is among the most distinguished art museums in North America. However, it has also become well known for its special exhibits and events - everything from the David Bowie extravaganza, which has been so popular that it has been held over to November 27 to the Gallery's support of Nuit Blanche, where current artist-in-residence Diane Borsato, recently hosted 100 beekeepers, in full gear, in a collective act of meditation and synchronized stretching with musical accompaniment.

The Gallery also made headlines in 2008, with a stunning new design by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. Highlights include Galleria Italia, a gleaming showcase made of wood and glass running the length of an entire city block, along the Gallery's façade, and the feature staircase, spiraling up through the roof of Walker Court and into the new contemporary galleries above. From the extensive Group of Seven collection to the dramatic African art gallery, from the cutting-edge works in the contemporary tower to Peter Paul Rubens' masterpiece The Massacre of The Innocents, a highlight of the celebrated Thomson Collection, there is truly something for everyone at the AGO.

What's really exciting though is that the AGO is also equipped to host just about any social and corporate event. With multiple event spaces, seminar rooms and a theatre to choose from, there is a venue for every type of event. Especially popular is Baillie Court, the main function space that is trimmed with Douglas fir finishes and dotted with select pieces of stunning artwork. The space also offers panoramic, south-facing views of the city skyline. For extra inspiration, private gallery tours can be arranged for meetings. The art of entertaining indeed.
