The Action: Surrounded by million-dollar, semi-detached houses near Broadview station, this detached house without parking was considered a bargain for investors and builders priced just over half a million. Hence, the open houses were busy and countless appointments were booked before offers rolled in.

What They Got: This roughly century-old, brick house maintains a traditional look, with hardwood floors in the fireside living room, formal dining area and the largest of three bedrooms on the second floor.

Plumbed-in areas consist of two bathrooms, including one in the unfinished basement, and a kitchen with an exit to the rear portion of the 19-by-132-foot lot.

The Agent's Take: "A lot of homes are already done, so this one was one of the more run down properties there," agent Lina Risi said. "It was so close to being a 20-foot [wide] lot, which is perfect for building."

More desirable than the chance to personalize the space was its proximity to amenities. "There's no parking, but the location was A-plus, being right at the Broadview and Danforth subway," Ms. Risi added.
