This past spring, this detached, two-storey house was listed for $599,000 by agent Lucais Shepherd. Before the end of the day, he received competing bids from a couple of buyers, including one offering $71,000 more than the asking price.

"It was a really cute, detached house in a good neighbourhood," the agent says. "It's also steps to Trinity Bellwoods Park and close to great schools."

The house is surrounded by nature, including Fred Hamilton Park to the north and a fenced, east-facing backyard with a patio and garden.

"There's a fruit-bearing mulberry tree in the backyard, which was great for making jam," Mr. Shepherd says. "[Plus]there was mature ivy that grew up the side of the house and gave it a feeling of stateliness and history."

Inside, the appeal of this three-bedroom home lies in its modern amenities and traditional details, from a recently remodelled kitchen and bathroom upstairs to an original oak staircase, refinished hardwood floors and stained glass and diamond leaded windows.

"Each little pane was bevelled, so it's like crystal glass reflecting light," Mr. Shepherd says. "The house was well preserved."

A formal dining room and a fireside living room round out the main floor.

The level above houses the bedrooms, and the one below has a playroom with a walkout to the built-in garage.
