The Sterling retirement community in Niagara-on-the-Lake will offer easy living for active seniors, and, according to Mark Kindrachuk, developer of the project, "the natural beauty of the site is outstanding."
The project by Life Lease Associates of Canada, in partnership with Intermarket Developments, will include 98 suites in a stately, four-storey building. Prices start at $199,900 for 735 square feet.
"It's a rare opportunity to find a location with this many attributes. . . . It's a pastoral setting with mature trees throughout the property and incredible views of Niagara's vineyards and orchards," Mr. Kindrachuk says.
"The site's proximity to Highway 55, the Niagara wine route, as well as the historic town of Niagara-on-the Lake, make it a desirable location. In addition, it has easy access to the QEW."
The Sterling's design, inspired by British country estates, will feature dormers and large, gracious-looking windows.
All suites will have great views; half of them will face west, giving them evening vistas over the orchards and vineyards.
Those on the east side will have beautiful morning views through a mature grove of oak and maple trees.
Buyers can choose from several plans, from one-bedroom units to a two-bedroom suite with den that is 1,523 square feet. Six appliances are included. Bathrooms will be equipped with walk-in shower stalls with moulded seats. The laundry room will include a stacked washer and dryer. Ground-floor suites will have access to a garden courtyard, and each suite will have a private balcony.
On the main floor, a spacious lobby will lead to a panelled library and a lounge with a wine bar. There also will be a games room. Guest suites will be available for visits from family and friends.
The lower level will provide well-lit, spacious spots for underground parking, as well as a car-wash bay.
Bikes and other items will be easily accessible in the storage room. Also on this level will be a woodworking shop, winemaking room, gardening area and access to a sunken, outdoor terrace.
On the grounds, there will be a gazebo as well as walking trails that wind through natural wooded areas, providing views of the orchards, vineyards and Three Mile Creek.
The recreational and cultural attractions of the area make it a year-round magnet. Its unique microclimate makes it an excellent region for wine cultivation and gardening.
