The Action: The buyer centred his house hunt on locations similar to where he had previously lived in downtown Toronto, near the entertainment and financial districts, agent Kelly Tchorewski said. He wanted something close to work, restaurants, bars and shops and this fit the bill. He was also able to shave $59,900 off the asking price.
What They Got: This penthouse suite is in the Slater, Ottawa's newest luxury high-rise condominium in the centre of the city's business district. The top-floor unit is a two-storey unit that features an open-concept design, south-facing views, floor-to-ceiling windows and an expansive terrace with a gas BBQ hookup.
The building itself has a gym, hot tub, dining room, kitchen, party room and theatre room.
The Agent's Take: While a penthouse at nearby Lansdowne Park is selling for more than $2-million, and another luxury condo penthouse less than a 10-minute walk away is selling for more than $5-million, this one is affordable by comparison.
Ms. Tchorewski says there is a lot separating this unit from others in the downtown core.
"The Slater offers stunning contemporary design from the ground up, with open concept living space and dramatic design elements, clean lines, and compelling views," she said.
The combination of location and amenities is what drew the buyer to this unit, according to Ms. Tchorewski. There was the lure of a quick closing as well, to accommodate the buyers' rapid move from Toronto to Ottawa.
"The buyer felt that there was no other condo that could match this in the downtown core," she said. The good reputation of the building's developer, Broccolini, was also a factor in the negotiation.
