The action

Bungalow owners near Toronto’s Cricket Club wanted a larger property, so they considered five options nearby. In June, they struck a $1.872-million deal for this new two-storey house on a 40-by-130-foot lot.

What they got

Around Clanton Park, there is a growing number of infill homes, such as this four-bedroom and four-bathroom version with a finished basement and attached garage.

Built just five years ago, the interior is modern with a kitchen outfitted with quartz counters and stainless-steel appliances, as well as a large island providing separation from a living room with a fireplace. Spanning the rear, is a family area customized with seating surrounded by shelving and sliding garden doors.

Higher views can be enjoyed from a balcony off a second-floor bedroom with a fireplace and private bathroom.

The agent’s take

“Only about 20 per cent of the houses there now are new,” agent Ira Jelinek said.

“The main attraction for [the buyers] was going from a 30-foot to a 40-foot lot, so they got 10 more feet in width … and they were in a bungalow, which was probably 17 feet-wide, and now they have [a house] 35 feet-wide, so they doubled their interior width.”
