For buyers without the time, energy or resources to travel north to unwind after a hectic workweek in the city, Curated Properties’ latest boutique development will immediately transport residents to a modern cottage country retreat with one look.

The local developer will outfit a six-storey townhouse project much like 25 contemporary cabins deep in the rugged Canadian wilderness on a former industrial site at 45 Dovercourt Rd., southeast of Queen and Dufferin streets.

“It’s different and original,” says Curated Properties principal Adam Ochshorn.

“The project’s inspiration comes from a modern movement in cottage country where some new contemporary cottages that are going up are based on a mix of natural materials from the landscape, such as wood and stone, and metal, and that’s what we’re introducing with this project.”

The rustic theme established from the wood and metal-accented exterior, designed by RAW, will be echoed by the interior craftsmanship articulated by Mason Studio.

“It’s original looking from the outside and original on the inside. We are cladding the suites with some engineered wood on the walls and ceilings, so it’s going to have a real warm, contemporary look,” Mr. Ochshorn says.

“I haven’t really seen that done in multiunits in the city, so we’re trying to bring up an up north, contemporary feel to a multiunit project in the city.”

By late October, the sales centre will open with a model suite to showcase the pairing of matte wood laminate, pony hair, polished brass and textured stone boulder appointments, as well as various wood features from North on Sixty.

“They’re an interesting company because they’re toronto- and Muskoka-based and they take different kinds of wood that are part of the landscape to build furniture, clad homes and clad buildings,” says Mr. Ochshorn, who notes the sustainable shop will also provide exterior cladding. “They’re wood experts.”

Befitting of the project’s unconventional appearance will also be an innovative arrangement of two-storey suites – shifted and stacked on top of one another – merging the best qualities of low- and high-rise homes.

“None of our units are small, so it’s not your standard condominium,” Mr. Ochshorn says. “They’re basically multifloor living, like townhouses in the sky.”

Buyers can chose from one- to three-bedroom plans, including four units with street-level access while the rest will have elevator access, and all with nine-foot ceilings, large windows and wide balconies, terraces or rooftop decks.

“As in all our projects, we stress private outdoor connection,” Mr. Ochshorn notes. “There are some oversized terraces to total rooftop terraces to terraces on multiple levels, so we think that’s different.”

Monthly fees and cost of parking are yet to be determined, but the site is a short walk to public transit, Queen Street restaurants, bars, galleries, refurbished Drake and Gladstone hotels, as well as boutique shops, bistros and a brewery on Ossington Avenue and a grocer and farmers’ market in Liberty Village.

Move-in dates will begin December, 2017.
