The Action: Just a short drive from Lighthouse Park on Burrard Inlet, this renovated Caulfield residence was listed at $2.795-million and toured by more than two dozen buyers last year but failed to find a buyer. The house was taken off the market after six months, and was set to be reposted at $2.888-million when an offer materialized from an earlier visitor.

What They Got: Set atop an elevated 142- by 124-foot lot, this 4,971-square-foot residence has a four-bedroom and six-bathroom plan with several entertaining areas with dramatic vaulted ceilings and multiple walkouts, plus an elevator, double garage and workshop in the basement.

The principal rooms are situated on the top level, including a sunken living room with one of four gas fireplaces, a fireside dining room and a Downsview kitchen with granite countertops, Sub-Zero and Ultraline appliances and a breakfast area by the fireside family room.

The top floor also has two bedrooms, while the one below has two bedrooms, a den, office, hobby room and recreation room with a sauna.

The Agent's Take: "It's a new 2007 house in a great location in Lower Caulfield," agent Jamie MacDougall says. "It's basically a 5,000-square-foot house with views to Mount Baker, which is east, and Vancouver Island to the west."

Buyers were also impressed by the vast amount of outdoor space. "It's almost a 20,000-square-foot lot, which is probably 5,000 to 6,000 [square feet] bigger than your standard lot in the area. And it's perched up higher to give you the views, which were quite nice," Mr. MacDougall says. "On the top level, there are walkouts to two south-facing decks … and then there is a huge 2,000-square-foot patio on the back."
