Looking for a hot date? Vancouver-based dating site PlentyOfFish may be your best option – at least if you're looking for the biggest pool of potential matches. PlentyOfFish, which was purchased Monday by rival Match Group for $575-million (U.S.) in cash, notched about 1.85-million unique visitors in May, according to data from comScore, making it the most visited dating site in Canada. Match Group sites – which include Match.com, OKCupid and Tinder, among others – came in second, at 1.73-million unique visitors for the month.

Match Group owes its recent growth to the rising popularity of Tinder, an app-based dating platform. Tinder received 670,000 unique Canadian visitors in May, a 189-per-cent rise from a year ago. Match Group posted visitor growth of 33 per cent over the same span. But minus Tinder, it saw a 0.84-per-cent decrease in visitors. IAC/InterActiveCorp. is planning to spin off Match Group as a separate public company.
