A Simulator at CAE Inc., in Montreal, Quebec, April 21, 2010.

Flight-simulator manufacturer CAE Inc. has won a series of contracts in the military aviation sector valued at about $110-million.

Montreal-based CAE said on Wednesday that the contracts are for a range of training systems and services for defence customers in several different countries.

The deals include development and support of the T-6C ground-based training system for the Royal New Zealand Air Force, a contract to upgrade visual systems on the German Air Force's Eurofighter simulators, a contract from Korea Aerospace Industries to provide the visual system for a T-501Q full-mission simulator, and a contract to provide a KC-135 boom operator weapon systems trainer for an undisclosed international customer.

"We are well positioned across a range of opportunities around the world, involving defence and security forces that increasingly recognize the benefits of simulation-based training," CAE's group president for defence and security Gene Colabatistto said.

CAE makes simulators in both the civil and military aviation sectors; it is also making inroads in new areas, such as health care and mining.

The civil business accounts for about 55 per cent of its revenue, while the military division represents about 40 per cent.

CAE's military aviation unit has been holding its own despite reduced spending from some governments.
