Canadian, U.S. jobs reports out, Friday

Monday, Oct. 1

Statistics Canada reports on the raw materials price index and industrial product prices in August. Economists expect a rise of 1.2 per cent, and a drop of 0.1 per cent, respectively.

The U.S. Institute for Supply Management issues its manufacturing index for September. Economists expect a reading of 50.

Statistics Canada issues its jobs report for September. Economists expect the unemployment rate to remain unchanged at 7.3 per cent. Hiring is expected to add 10,000 jobs to payrolls.

The U.S. Labour Department publishes its employment report for September. Economists expect the unemployment rate to rise to 8.2 per cent from 8.1 per cent. Non-farm payrolls are expected to grow by 115,000 jobs.
