Many repurchases are a bust: study

A study of share repurchase announcements between 1994 to 2005 for companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange came up with some interesting findings.

For example, 69 per cent of them failed to acquire the target number of shares - and many failed to repurchase any shares at all.

The study was conducted by Dev Mishra and Marie Racine of the University of Saskatchewan, and Luke Schmidt of Greystone Managed Investments. Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences
