Usability consultant Jared Spool says one website increased its revenues by $300-million (U.S.) when it eliminated the registration button, heeding the advice of a first-time shopper who said, “I’m not here to enter into a relationship. I want to buy something.”

Instead, the site offers a “continue” button with this message: “You do not need to create an account to make purchases on our site. Simply click Continue to proceed to checkout. To make your future purchases even faster, you can create an account during checkout.” UIE.com

Pace yourself for presentations

People’s attention cycle when they’re at a presentation is about 20 minutes. So instead of talking for 45 minutes and then taking questions, public speaking expert Nick Morgan suggests speaking for about 20 minutes, taking questions on that portion, and then repeating the cycle, leaving yourself five minutes at the end to deliver a killer closing. Handling meetings, Google style

Kristen Gil, vice-president of operations at Google, says the company ensures that every decision-oriented meeting has a clear decision-maker, or the meeting doesn’t happen.
