Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Ltd. is moving its headquarters to Montreal from Toronto and has named former cabinet minister Brian Tobin as its new executive chairman. The miner, which currently has offices in Toronto and Manhattan, said yesterday the move is intended to focus its operations in Quebec as it as it moves from resource explorer and developer to active iron ore miner by the end of the year. The moves will allow the company "to put in place the permanent management team that will take Consolidated Thompson forward as we start up the machinery and prepare to produce first ore this year," Mr. Tobin said on a conference call. While its properties were under development, the company had operated in conjunction with management support services firm in Toronto.
