Gas prices across the country have dropped in recent weeks, but on average are still higher than a year ago, despite oil prices cratering to multi-year lows. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is 98.6 cents a litre, according to the latest survey data from MJ Ervin & Associates. While the average price is 21.7 per cent lower than a 2015 peak, it's nearly 6 per cent higher than a year ago. The per-barrel price of West Texas Intermediate, the North American benchmark, is down about 33 per cent over the same span.
