This Cadillac Fairview property in Vancouver is soon to be made over for upscale U.S. department store Nordstrom which plans to open in four Canadian locations. Built for Eaton’s in 1973 as part of the Pacific Centre mall, and recently a Sears Centre, this location will be given a major facelift.

Instead of blank white walls facing the street, the Vancouver redesign will bring daylight into the building with a glass facade. Cadillac Fairview will also make extensive renovations to its A-mall space at Calgary’s Chinook Centre and Ottawa’s Rideau Centre for its new U.S. tenant. In Toronto, Cadillac Fairview will add a new building at Sherway Gardens.

Sherway Gardens redevelopment will provide an additional 210,000 square feet of retail space and a remerchandising of 90,000 square feet of existing space. The hope is that Nordstrom will heighten consumers’ experience of the mall. ‘Malls are quality assets and we have to take care of them,’ Mr. Barwise said. ‘We continue to invest significant capital in our properties so we can remain best in class and dominant in our respective market place.’
