International Forest Products Ltd. is looking to sell its Field sawmill in Courtenay, B.C., as the company works to streamline operations. Chief executive officer Duncan Davies said yesterday the firm is in talks with "a couple of parties" about a possible sale. "Our preference, we've said all along and we think what would be in the best interests of our company, would be if we could sell that asset," Mr. Davies said. Interfor has said that while its interior and U.S. operations were profitable in its most recent quarter, its coastal operations were not, due in part to high costs and poor productivity relative to other regions. The company said it expects to operate its sawmills in the interior of B.C. and the United States on a normal schedule while its coastal sawmills would operate on a reduced basis and operations would continue to be curtailed at the Field mill. IFP.SV.A (TSX) rose 12 cents to $6.60. CP
