Laura Berg is the founder of Toronto-based My Smart Hands, which teaches sign language to parents of hearing babies.
Three things on Ms. Berg's mind:
1. The need to continuously be developing or improving on what I am offering. As my business grows I need to be able to meet the increasing demand for more product and curriculum. Growth and flexibility is key.
2. The need to learn how to delegate. I started my company doing everything myself. Now I realize I can't be effective if I spread myself too thinly. I need to figure out what aspect of my business is important for me to control and hold on to and delegate the rest to people I trust.
3. As an entrepreneur, I am discovering the importance of needing to find a balance between personal/family life and business. When you don't have a 9-to-5 job it's hard to shut the work part down. I work at all hours of the day and night, whenever I find time. There are moments when I need to shut my computer down and take some me time. Finding that balance is crucial.
