Occasional boxer and top trader James Beattie is getting back in the ring, signing on Wednesday as the new head of equity trading at CIBC World Markets.
Mr. Beattie has spent two decades in the business, most notably on the equity desk at RBC Capital Markets. He decided to take a break from running the trading team at Royal Bank of Canada's investment banking arm in September. He is also a tireless industry advocate as a volunteer with the Canadian Equity Traders Association, and has taken more than a few punches in bouts - they are known as the Fight for Independence - that support a number of worthy charities.
Mr. Beattie will join CIBC World Markets on Dec. 8 and will report to Rik Parkhill, the dealer's recently appointed head of cash equities.
