The Competition Bureau officially appointed Matthew Boswell as its senior deputy commissioner for criminal matters, a role in which he is already well versed.

Since the bureau named John Pecman commissioner in 2012, Mr. Boswell has served has the acting senior deputy commission for criminal matters. Now he is taking on the job for good.

The bureau has yet to officially name its other senior deputy commissioner, who is in charge of mergers. Ann Wallwork has been serving as the acting head of this branch since Kelley McKinnon suddenly left the role in December.

Mr. Boswell has been at the Competition Bureau since 2011 and previously worked for the Ontario Securities Commission's enforcement arm. Before that he worked at Smith Lyons LLP and Ormston List Frawley LLP.
